Patty Melts
Patty Melts Dish Guide
Serves 2
Five Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
1 large white onion
4 slices rye bread
2 T whole grain mustard
8 slices Swiss cheese
From the Pantry
2-3 T olive oil
Form the ground beef into two half-pound patties that are roughly the size and shape of your bread slices. Thinly slice the onion into rounds and break apart.
Heat a skillet over medium high heat and place in the two patties. Season with salt and pepper and cook for 4-5 minutes a side or until cooked through to your liking. Set aside and add onions to the skillet. Sautee for 4-5 minutes in the rendered beef fat and season with salt and pepper. Remove from the skillet once softened and beginning to brown.
Lay down a slice of bread and add two slices of cheese followed by half the onions, a beef patty, two more slices of cheese, and smear 1 tablespoon of mustard on the top slice of bread. Add 1-2 T olive oil to the skillet as needed and turn heat to medium low. Lay in the patty melt and cook for 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy on both sides and cheese has melted.
Serve immediately with a side of tots, fries, or a salad.
