Five Ingredients

1 lb penne pasta

28 oz can crushed tomatoes

2-3 oz freshly grated parmesan cheese

2 t red pepper flakes

Fresh basil

From the Pantry

¼ cup olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

Bring a large pot of salted water to boil and add the pasta. Cook until al dente and drain, reserving ½ cup of starchy cooking water.

While the pasta cooks, add the olive oil to a large pot over medium high heat. Add the garlic and pepper flakes and cook for 1-2 minutes or until fragrant. Add in the crushed tomatoes and reduce heat to medium low. Cook, stirring often, for 8-10 minutes or until slightly reduced.

Add in some torn fresh basil (to taste) and add the drained pasta. Stir everything to combine, adding some of the pasta cooking to emulsify everything and season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve immediately with freshly grated parmesan and more basil.
